Moreno Valley, CA (October 9, 2024) – A head-on collision in Moreno Valley killed 60-year-old Jay Britton of Moreno Valley and injured two others.
Accident Details: The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Ironwood Avenue and Helga Lane. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Britton was driving along Ironwood Avenue when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with another car. Britton was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The two individuals in the other vehicle were taken to Riverside University Medical Center with injuries that, while serious, were not life-threatening. Authorities expect them to make a full recovery.
Investigation: The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the direction each vehicle was traveling at the time remains unclear. Investigators are working to determine the factors that led to the fatal collision.
Head-On Collisions and Potential Negligence: As a personal injury attorney, I find that it is important to determine the reason Britton’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.
- Britton’s Behavior: One critical aspect of the investigation is determining whether any traffic laws were violated, such as speeding, distracted driving, or failure to maintain proper lane control.
- Mechanical Issues: Vehicle malfunctions like steering problems may have caused Britton to veer into oncoming traffic. If so, the vehicle manufacturer or service company may be held responsible.
Wrongful Death Claim by Britton’s Family: Britton’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim if any evidence suggests that external factors contributed to the crash. Even if Britton was partly negligent for crossing into oncoming traffic, the family can still recover part compensation under the doctrine of comparative negligence if other parties share fault.
Compensation for Injured Victims: The two occupants of the other vehicle may be able to pursue a personal injury claim for compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jay Britton’s family during this difficult time. My thoughts are also with the injured individuals and their families as they recover from their injuries.
