Madera County, CA (August 30, 2024) – On Friday, August 30, a tragic collision involving a big rig and two other vehicles in Madera County claimed the life of 31-year-old Brittany Robbins.
Accident Details: A man driving a Chrysler westbound on Avenue 12 stopped to make a left turn at Riverstone Boulevard. A big rig, unable to stop in time, rear-ended the Chrysler. The force of the impact caused a head-on collision with Robbins’s vehicle. Robbins succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the driver of the Chrysler sustained injuries. The driver of the big rig was not harmed in the crash. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors in this devastating accident.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. In large commercial vehicle accidents, several vital aspects require thorough investigation to determine liability. One critical question is whether the big rig driver was operating the vehicle within the required speed limits and if they were distracted or fatigued at the time of the crash. Investigators may also examine the maintenance records of the big rig to ensure that the vehicle was in proper working condition at the time of the crash.
Another aspect to consider is the design and safety of the intersection where the accident occurred. If the traffic signals or road design contributed to the crash, there may be grounds to investigate potential municipal liability.
Finally, the actions of the big rig driver, such as following distance and reaction time, will be crucial in understanding why they were unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. If it is found that the big rig driver or local municipality was negligent, Brittany Robbins’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim and recover compensation for their loss, such as funeral expenses and loss of income.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brittany Robbins during this challenging time.
