One Killed in Overturned 18-Wheeler Crash on US 287 in Midlothian

Midlothian, TX (May 19, 2025) – A fatal collision involving an overturned 18-wheeler shut down northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 287 near Midlothian on Sunday, according to local authorities.

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of US 287 near FM 661. Police said the 18-wheeler overturned and struck a passenger vehicle, resulting in the death of at least one person. Aerial footage from the scene showed the semi-truck on its side and extensive debris across the roadway. Emergency responders closed all northbound lanes for several hours during cleanup and investigation efforts.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Midlothian Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety are jointly investigating the incident. Factors under review include the cause of the truck overturning, possible mechanical issues, and whether speed or driver fatigue contributed. Investigators will also determine if trucking regulations regarding weight, maintenance, and hours-of-service were followed.
