Everett, WA (September 24, 2025) – A 63-year-old Everett man was killed early Wednesday morning when a truck struck him along southbound Interstate 5 near State Route 526 and the Everett Mall exit. Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers confirmed the man died at the scene.
Accident Details: Authorities reported the crash at around 4 a.m. after initially describing the incident as a vehicle versus motorcycle collision. Further investigation revealed the victim’s Vespa scooter was parked on the left shoulder of the highway when the rider entered one of the lanes. At that point, a truck struck him, leading to fatal injuries. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending family notification.
Traffic Disruptions: The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) stated that three lanes of southbound I-5 were blocked for several hours during the response. By 6:45 a.m., traffic backups stretched past US-2, forcing vehicles into a single open lane. Drivers experienced heavy delays throughout the Everett area during the morning commute. All lanes were fully reopened by 7:30 a.m.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: WSP is conducting a full investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the deadly collision. They will review whether the truck driver’s actions, roadway conditions, or other factors played a role in the crash. Fatal truck collisions often leave families facing not only grief but also the financial burden of funeral costs and potential claims for damages. Liability in cases like this may fall on the truck driver or other responsible parties depending on the findings of the investigation.
Officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant when traveling through congested highway areas, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility can be limited. The Everett community has been left mourning the sudden loss of a local resident in this tragic event.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim following this Everett truck accident.
