El Mirage, California (December 29, 2025) — A fiery two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 395 in the unincorporated community of El Mirage claimed the life of Xavier I. Macias, a 19-year-old Victorville resident, Sunday afternoon, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 12:11 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway 395, just south of Shadow Mountain Road. San Bernardino County Fire Department crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle traffic collision involving fire and multiple injuries. Upon arrival, firefighters began fire suppression efforts and initiated emergency medical treatment.
Authorities reported a total of six patients were involved. Macias was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals sustained critical injuries and were classified as “immediates,” while three additional patients suffered less severe injuries and were classified as “delayed.” Two medical helicopters were used to transport the critically injured patients to local trauma centers.
Before emergency responders arrived, two bystanders stopped to help and were able to pull a male occupant from a burning vehicle described as a Land Rover SUV. Family members later shared that Macias was remembered as a joyful young man with a bright spirit and a smile that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
