Los Angeles, California (October 29, 2025) — A 26-year-old motorcyclist has been identified as the victim of a fatal four-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning on the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway near Melrose Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. when a motorcycle collided with a white Honda Pilot SUV in the middle lanes of the southbound freeway. Authorities said the impact caused the rider, later identified as Villanelle Thompson, to fall onto the roadway, where he became pinned beneath a red Toyota Corolla.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded and used hydraulic rescue tools and an airbag to lift the vehicle and free the trapped motorcyclist. Despite their efforts, Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision caused a significant traffic backup, prompting CHP to close three southbound lanes and issue a SigAlert while investigators worked to clear the scene and document evidence.
Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the fatal crash. Officers are working to determine how the initial collision between the motorcycle and SUV occurred and whether speed, sudden lane changes, or limited visibility were contributing factors.
