Apple Valley, CA (June 3, 2024) – A serious incident occurred in Apple Valley on Monday night, leaving a local bicyclist in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle.
Incident Details: The collision took place at around 9:10 PM at the intersection of Thunderbird Road and Wichita Road. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, a black Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on Thunderbird Road in the number one lane as it approached Wichita Road. Victor Cunanan, the 52-year-old bicyclist from Apple Valley, was also riding eastbound in the same lane when the Ford Explorer struck him. Cunanan suffered severe injuries due to the impact and was initially transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Due to the gravity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to another hospital for advanced medical care. The driver of the Ford Explorer did not sustain injuries and cooperated with law enforcement at the scene.
Legal Implications: The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) has taken charge of the investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident and to assess any contributing factors. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, there could be potential legal repercussions for the driver if found at fault, including charges related to negligent or reckless driving. If so, the victim could consider pursuing a personal injury claim for their medical expenses and other damages.
