Milan, IL (May 28, 2025) — A 49-year-old Milan man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision involving a semi-truck that also triggered a hazardous materials situation and flooded nearby businesses. The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. on the 4300 block of 78th Avenue, also known as Indian Bluff Road.
Incident Details: According to the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a crash involving a car and a semi-truck. The driver of the car, identified as Tyson R. Stevens, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The collision caused significant infrastructure damage. A fire hydrant was sheared off its base, creating a substantial water flow that flooded three nearby businesses. In addition, the semi-truck reportedly leaked a large amount of fuel, prompting a hazardous materials response from emergency crews.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have not released further details on what caused the semi-truck and Stevens’ vehicle to collide. However, several factors will likely be examined, including vehicle speed, road conditions, and whether the semi-truck driver adhered to all relevant safety regulations.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the Stevens’ family may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit for compensation for funeral expenses, lost future income, and emotional suffering.
I extend my condolences to the family and loved ones of Tyson Stevens during this difficult time.
