Dos mujeres heridas, una de ellas grave, en una colisión de peatones en Isla Vista

Isla Vista, CA (May 13, 2025) — Two women were struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening while walking in Isla Vista, leaving one with critical injuries, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Incident Details: Emergency crews responded around 6:45 p.m. to the intersection of Camino Pescadero and Sabado Tarde Road, where the collision occurred. Fire Captain Scott Safechuck reported that one woman sustained significant injuries, while the second pedestrian suffered minor injuries. Both victims were transported by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Their current conditions and identities have not been released.

The vehicle’s driver, a female and the sole occupant, was not injured in the incident. Her name has also not been disclosed. Authorities confirmed she remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to determine how the collision occurred. Investigators will likely assess whether driver distraction, speed, visibility, or failure to yield contributed to the crash. They will also examine whether the pedestrians were crossing within a designated crosswalk or had the right-of-way at the time of the incident.

Depending on the investigation’s findings, the injured driver and pedestrian may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim to recover damages for medical care, pain and suffering, and long-term rehabilitation.
