Darlington County, SC (May 20, 2025) – Two people were killed Monday evening in a tragic collision involving an ATV and two tractor-trailers in Darlington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the county coroner.
Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Gilchrist Road near Indian Branch Road. Authorities say the ATV was traveling west on Gilchrist Road when it was struck from behind by one tractor-trailer and then hit again by a second. Both occupants of the ATV were pronounced dead at the scene by the Darlington County Coroner’s Office. Their identities have not yet been released pending family notification.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly crash. Officials are examining whether speed, visibility, or driver awareness played a role. The involvement of two commercial vehicles may also bring into question compliance with safety regulations for large trucks.
