Dos muertos y diez heridos en un choque de 16 vehículos en la I-95 en el condado de Colleton, SC

Colleton County, SC (July 22, 2025) – A devastating sequence of crashes involving 16 vehicles, including multiple commercial trucks, shut down I-95 southbound near mile marker 41 in Colleton County on Tuesday afternoon.

Accident Details: According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), two people died and ten others were injured. The initial crash occurred just before 4:30 p.m., involving three vehicles, one of which was a commercial motor vehicle. One person was taken to a local hospital following the first collision.

Later, a much larger crash occurred in the same area. That incident involved 13 vehicles, including six commercial motor vehicles. Two people were killed, and nine others were transported to the hospital.

SCHP is continuing to investigate the cause of both collisions.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will examine several factors, including:

  • Traffic flow and congestion just before the crash;
  • Speed and following distance of each vehicle;
  • Driver distraction or fatigue;
  • Black box data;
  • Brake failure or equipment malfunction; and
  • Visibility, weather, and road conditions.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the families of the deceased may have the right to pursue wrongful death claims. The injured parties may be able to file personal injury claims.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. My thoughts are also with the injured individuals as they recover.
