Three Hospitalized After Semi Hits Pickup on US-35 in Xenia

XENIA, OH (July 10, 2025) – Three people were hospitalized Wednesday evening after a semi-truck collided with a pickup truck and trailer on US-35 in Xenia, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on US-35 eastbound near the US-42 interchange. According to Lieutenant Joseph Weeks of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Xenia Post, a pickup truck towing a trailer ran out of gas and came to a stop partially in the right lane of the highway.

As one of the pickup truck’s occupants attempted to refill the gas tank, a semi-truck came around a curve in the roadway and struck the disabled vehicle. The force of the impact threw the individual over a guardrail, causing serious injuries. That person was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Officials have not released information about the extent of their injuries.

The semi-truck driver and another passenger in the pickup were also injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Lieutenant Weeks noted that the curve in the roadway and lighting conditions may have contributed to the collision. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance and allowing enough time to react to unexpected hazards on the road.

In similar cases, investigators typically examine whether the truck driver followed commercial driving regulations, including speed limits and proper lookout obligations. For the driver of the pickup, officials may review whether emergency precautions were taken, such as activating hazard lights or moving as far out of the travel lane as possible. When large trucks collide with stationary vehicles, questions often arise about driver attentiveness, roadway design, and visibility.

We extend our thoughts to those injured in this crash and wish them strength and healing during recovery.
