East Los Angeles, CA (March 22, 2025) – A deadly collision involving multiple vehicles occurred a little after midnight on Saturday at the Cesar Chavez Avenue off-ramp from the northbound I-5 (Golden State Freeway).
Accident Details: The accident involved a collision between a BMW, Tesla, and Nissan. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Nissan became engulfed in flames. The driver of the Nissan, 26-year-old Anthony Medina, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the CHP, the driver of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The crash remains under investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Driving under the influence impairs decision-making, slows reaction time, and significantly increases the risk of a catastrophic crash. Thus, it breaches the duty of every driver to operate their vehicle safely and in accordance with traffic laws.
Investigators must conduct a thorough reconstruction in a multi-vehicle crash like this one. Key evidence may include toxicology reports, dash cam footage, witness statements, vehicle damage patterns, and black box data from the involved cars. Investigators will need to determine what initiated the collision and whether any mechanical issues, road conditions, or evasive actions by other drivers played a role.
Depending on the results of the investigation, the family of Anthony Medina may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek compensation for their loss.
I extend my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Anthony Medina.
