Vacaville, CA (July 11, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred in Vacaville, California, where Officer Matthew Bowen lost his life while performing his duties.
Incident Overview: The incident happened in the morning at the intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive. Officer Bowen, a motorcycle officer, was conducting a routine traffic stop when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Serena C.J. Rodriguez, 24, of Auburn. Officer Bowen was transported to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Rodriguez is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision.
Investigation: After the collision, Rodriguez attempted to flee on foot. However, bystanders detained her. She has since been booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of homicide and driving under the influence causing injury and/or death.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Determining the level and type of drugs in Rodriguez’s system will be crucial. Toxicology reports will provide essential evidence in establishing impairment. Analyzing the specifics of the collision, including the speed of Rodriguez’s vehicle, road conditions, and the visibility of Officer Bowen during the traffic stop, will help clarify the circumstances leading to the crash. The Bowen family may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim, which can cover funeral expenses, loss of income, and emotional distress.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Officer Matthew Bowen during this difficult time.
