Oroville East, CA (July 30, 2025) — One person was killed Wednesday evening in a head-on collision involving a suspected drunk driver on Highway 162 in Butte County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred around 7:17 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 162 and Old Olive Highway. CHP reports that the driver of an eastbound pickup truck crossed the westbound lanes and collided with another vehicle. The driver of the westbound car was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities arrested the pickup driver on suspicion of DUI.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will review toxicology reports, witness accounts, and any available video footage to determine other contributors to the collision.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the surviving family members of the victim may pursue a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.
