Pedestrian Sundi Washington-Wolff, 25, Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Elk Grove

Elk Grove, California (December 28, 2025) — A Saturday night hit-and-run crash in Elk Grove claimed the life of Sundi Washington-Wolff, a 25-year-old Sacramento resident remembered by her family as kind, thoughtful, and creative, according to the Elk Grove Police Department and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Incident Details: The collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. along the 9100 block of Bruceville Road, just north of Laguna Boulevard. Police say Washington-Wolff was crossing Bruceville Road traveling west when a dark-colored SUV struck her. Authorities reported that she was walking outside of a marked crosswalk and was hit in the number three lane as the vehicle traveled southbound from Di Lusso Drive.

Washington-Wolff suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators stated that the driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on Laguna Boulevard from Bruceville Road. As of Monday, the driver had not been located.

Family members described Washington-Wolff as someone whose “beautiful spirit touched so many people.” Her brother, Ezekiel Washington, shared in a verified fundraiser that the family had already endured the loss of their mother in 2019, making this tragedy particularly painful.

Investigation: The Elk Grove Police Department continues to investigate the hit-and-run. In pedestrian fatalities involving fleeing drivers, investigators typically focus on locating the vehicle through surveillance footage, license plate readers, traffic cameras, and damage patterns consistent with a pedestrian impact. Witness statements and vehicle debris left at the scene may also play a critical role.

Investigators will also examine roadway conditions, lighting, traffic patterns, and the precise point of impact to understand how the collision occurred. Even when a pedestrian is outside a crosswalk, drivers have a duty to exercise reasonable care, particularly on busy arterial roads at night. Determining speed, visibility, and driver attentiveness will be central to reconstructing the moments leading up to the crash.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians are among the most devastating types of roadway incidents, not only because of the vulnerability of those on foot, but because fleeing the scene can delay emergency aid and compound the harm. From a civil standpoint, identifying the driver is a crucial step in assessing liability and potential wrongful death claims.

In cases like this, Washington-Wolff’s surviving loved ones may consider pursuing a wrongful death claim to address funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the lasting emotional and financial impact of her death. While no legal process can replace a life taken too soon, accountability can matter profoundly to families seeking answers.

I extend my sincere condolences to Sundi’s family and loved ones as they mourn this tragic loss.
