Sioux County, Iowa (September 9, 2025) — One teenager was killed and another seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a semi-truck in northwest Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 18 at the intersection with U.S. Highway 75. Authorities said two 17-year-olds from Rock Valley were in a Cadillac Escalade when they pulled out from a stop sign and were struck by a northbound semi-truck on Highway 75. One teen was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The second was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital for treatment of injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Iowa State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Investigators will assess whether visibility, speed, or failure to yield at the stop sign contributed to the collision. Fatal semi-truck crashes often involve complex liability issues, with potential claims against both the truck driver and their employer. Families of victims may pursue wrongful death claims to recover funeral costs, lost financial support, and damages for emotional suffering. Injured survivors may also have grounds to pursue personal injury claims.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and community mourning the loss of the teen killed in this Sioux County crash, and I wish the injured teen a full recovery.
