Shirley Yeary, 62, Killed in Semi-Truck Collision on AA Highway in Kentucky

Alexandria, Kentucky (November 3, 2025) — Authorities have identified the woman killed early Monday morning in a collision on the AA Highway near Alexandria as 62-year-old Shirley Yeary of Falmouth. According to the Alexandria Police Department, the fatal crash occurred when a semi-truck driver allegedly ran a red light and struck Yeary’s vehicle.

Incident Details: The collision took place around 5 a.m. near KY-709 and Thelma Lee Drive. Police said Yeary was driving north on the AA Highway when a southbound semi-truck entered the intersection against a red light and crashed into her vehicle. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but Yeary succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and remained on site, cooperating with officers. The AA Highway was closed in both directions for nearly four hours as investigators documented the scene and cleared the wreckage. It reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

Investigation: The Alexandria Police Department, in collaboration with the Campbell County Special Incident Response Team, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are working to confirm whether the truck driver’s failure to obey the signal was due to distraction, fatigue, or another factor. Witness statements and intersection surveillance footage will likely play a key role in determining liability.

Running a red light is a violation of Kentucky traffic law, which requires drivers to stop at steady red signals. In fatal crashes, investigators typically examine skid marks, signal timing, and vehicle data to determine whether the driver made any attempt to brake or slow before impact.

In the aftermath of a fatal crash, such as a semi-truck collision, investigators from the Kentucky State Police or local law enforcement agencies launch a comprehensive and detailed investigation to reconstruct the events leading up to the impact. The primary goal is to determine the sequence of events and identify any contributing factors, particularly any negligence on the part of one or both drivers.

Legal Considerations: Crashes involving commercial trucks often have devastating outcomes due to the size and momentum of the vehicles. When a driver fails to stop at a red light, both the driver and their employer may face civil liability if negligence is proven.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the Yeary family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and loss of companionship.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Shirley Yeary as they grieve this tragic and preventable loss.
