Grand Traverse County, MI (March 18, 2025) – A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck occurred Tuesday morning on US-131 at East County Line Road. Authorities have confirmed that one person was killed in the collision, which shut down portions of the highway for several hours.
Incident Details: According to Wexford County deputies, the crash happened around 8:55 a.m. when a northbound semi-truck crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound pickup truck that was towing a trailer. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the victim’s name pending family notification.
The crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with southbound traffic rerouted onto M-113 and eastbound traffic diverted to East County Line Road. Authorities have encouraged northbound drivers to use the Manton Exit 191 and alternate routes while the investigation continues.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will likely examine whether driver fatigue, distraction, or mechanical failure contributed to the semi-truck crossing into oncoming traffic. If negligence is found, the family of the deceased may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss. Additionally, trucking companies may be held liable if improper maintenance or driver violations played a role in the crash.
My deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim.
