San Jose, CA (October 9, 2025) – One man died and two people were injured Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle crash at Rancho Drive and Monterey Road in South San Jose, according to Bay City News Service via SFGATE.
Accident Details: Police said the crash was reported around 5:35 p.m. when a 2007 silver Ford sedan traveling west on Rancho Drive began a left turn onto southbound Monterey Road. As the Ford turned, it collided with a 2013 blue BMW coupe traveling north on Monterey. The impact sent the BMW into the center divide before it came to rest in southbound lanes. A male passenger in the BMW was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and later died. Both drivers were transported with major injuries that were subsequently determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigation: San Jose police said the Ford’s driver is suspected of driving under the influence at the time of the collision. The case will be forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential charges. Investigators are analyzing scene evidence, vehicle damage, and any available camera footage to reconstruct the turn movement, approach speeds, and lines of sight. The fatality marks San Jose’s 28th traffic death of 2025, authorities said.
