San Francisco, CA (October 3, 2025) – Two people were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries Friday night after a hit-and-run crash near Buena Vista Park in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.
Accident Details: According to officials, the collision occurred around 9:51 p.m. at the intersection of Haight and Lyon streets. Emergency crews arrived to find two victims lying on the roadway with severe injuries. Authorities said a car struck a two-wheeled vehicle—believed to be either a bicycle or a moped—and fled the scene before first responders arrived.
Witnesses described seeing one man lying half-conscious in the middle of the road and another man motionless near the curb. Both victims were transported by paramedics to San Francisco General Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Their identities have not been released.
The crash caused temporary closures in the area as police and firefighters worked to secure the intersection and collect preliminary evidence.
Investigation: The San Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is handling the case. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residential cameras to identify the vehicle involved and the driver responsible for fleeing. Investigators are also seeking additional witnesses who may have seen the car before or after the impact.
Leaving the scene of a collision that results in injury or death is a felony offense in California under Vehicle Code Section 20001. Once identified, the hit-and-run driver could face significant criminal penalties in addition to civil liability for the victims’ injuries and losses.
Legal Considerations: Victims of hit-and-run crashes may have the right to pursue compensation for medical treatment, lost wages, and other damages, even when the at-fault driver initially evades capture. In many cases, claims may be made through uninsured motorist coverage or through recovery from the responsible driver once located. Civil claims can also help families offset the financial strain of ongoing medical care and rehabilitation.
This was a senseless and devastating collision that left two people fighting for their lives. My thoughts are with the victims and their families as they recover from this tragic hit-and-run.
