PLEASANTON, CA (November 11, 2025) — A 56-year-old Pleasanton woman died Tuesday evening when a vehicle struck her at a downtown intersection. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Rowena P. Coronel.
Accident Details: The Pleasanton Police Department reported that the crash occurred around 6:41 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Neal streets in downtown Pleasanton. Officers from the Pleasanton Police Department responded to the scene along with crews from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department and paramedics.
Coronel was struck by a vehicle while at the intersection. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she died from her injuries at the hospital. Police said the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Investigation: The Pleasanton Police Department is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators are working to learn how Coronel was struck at the downtown intersection and what factors may have contributed to the collision.
Officers are reviewing the events leading up to the crash and examining the intersection layout. Police have not released additional details about the direction the vehicle was traveling or where Coronel was positioned when the collision occurred. Anyone with information that can help with the investigation is asked to contact Pleasanton police at 925-931-5100.
Legal Considerations: Pedestrian collisions at intersections raise questions about right-of-way, crosswalk use, and driver visibility. Downtown intersections typically have marked crosswalks and traffic signals designed to protect pedestrians crossing the street.
When a pedestrian is fatally struck, the investigation examines whether the driver had a line of sight, whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, and whether traffic signals were functioning properly. Even when a driver remains at the scene and cooperates, families may still have legal options to pursue compensation.
Families who lose a loved one in a pedestrian crash face both grief and financial burdens including funeral expenses, medical bills, and the loss of future income and support. A wrongful death claim can help recover these damages and hold the responsible party accountable, even in cases where criminal charges are not filed.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Rowena P. Coronel during this time of loss.
