One Killed in Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer and Construction Vehicle on Route 581

Cumberland County, PA (April 28, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer and a construction vehicle occurred Monday morning on Route 581 in Cumberland County, leaving one person dead and resulting in major delays.

Incident Details: Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the collision happened around 9:15 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 581 near the exit to U.S. 15 in Lower Allen Township. A tractor-trailer struck a construction vehicle within an active work zone. The driver of the construction vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No other injuries were reported.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are investigating whether speed, distraction, or failure to adhere to construction zone safety regulations contributed to the crash. The incident underscores the heightened risk faced by roadside workers and could lead to scrutiny over compliance with Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law, which mandates drivers reduce speed and switch lanes when approaching emergency or work vehicles.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
