OAKLAND, CA (July 7, 2025) – Rose Marie Banks, 59, was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash while walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 82nd Avenue and Bancroft Avenue, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Accident Details: The crash occurred just before 10:00 p.m. on July 7. Oakland police say Banks was walking in the crosswalk when a vehicle traveling westbound on Bancroft Avenue struck her and fled the scene without stopping.
Emergency responders arrived and transported Banks to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Banks lived in the neighborhood near the crash site. Family and friends gathered at the scene for a memorial, releasing balloons and doves in her honor.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Oakland Police Department is actively investigating the incident. No suspect description has been released, and it is not yet known if impairment played a role in the crash. Hit-and-run collisions involving pedestrians in marked crosswalks often lead to both criminal and civil consequences.
