Roberto Rodriguez Killed in Crash with Big Rig Truck in Indio, CA

Indio, CA (December 11, 2025) – The coroner’s office has identified 33-year-old Roberto Rodriguez of Indio as the motorcyclist who was injured and died after his motorcycle and a big rig truck collided.

Incident Details: According to the Indio Police Department, the crash was reported on Thursday, December 11, around 11:15 p.m. It was in front of a business on the 4300 block of Monroe Street, south of Interstate 10.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man in the roadway with significant injuries. Paramedics applied lifesaving measures on the scene. The driver of the big rig was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

The injured motorcyclist was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead on the morning of Friday, December 12. The coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist as 33-year-old Roberto Rodriguez of Indio.

Investigation: The Indio Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision between a motorcycle and a big rig truck on Monroe Street, south of Interstate 10.

Investigators will examine physical evidence from the scene, including vehicle damage, debris patterns, and the final resting positions of the motorcycle and truck, to determine how the crash occurred.

Authorities are expected to review witness statements and any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses to clarify traffic conditions, lighting, and visibility at the time of the collision. They will also evaluate whether either vehicle had the right of way, as well as the actions of both drivers leading up to the crash.

Although the big rig driver cooperated with police and was not injured, officers will still assess speed, attentiveness, and compliance with traffic laws to establish a complete timeline.

Legal Considerations: Motorcycle collisions with large commercial vehicles often raise complex legal issues due to the size and stopping limitations of big rigs. Under California law, all drivers have a duty to operate their vehicles with reasonable care and to remain alert to motorcyclists, who are especially vulnerable on the roadway.

If the investigation determines that the truck driver failed to maintain a proper lookout, misjudged distance or speed, or otherwise acted negligently, civil liability may apply. Depending on the circumstances, liability could also extend to the trucking company if issues related to training, supervision, or safety compliance are identified.

For Roberto Rodriguez’s family, this sudden loss is devastating. A wrongful death claim may help surviving family members seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost financial support, and the loss of companionship and care he provided.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Roberto Rodriguez as they mourn this tragic loss.
