Sacramento, CA (June 23, 2025) – Robert Michael Pineschi Jr., 39, died Sunday evening after suffering life-threatening injuries in a multi-vehicle crash near downtown Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and E Street. Surveillance video from a nearby business showed an SUV running a red light while heading north on 16th Street. A silver car, traveling east through a green light on E Street, struck the SUV, causing it to spin out of control and collide with a third vehicle—a blue car making a right-hand turn.
The SUV came to a stop before D Street, while the blue car spun onto the sidewalk. The silver car continued forward before stopping just east of the intersection. Sacramento Police said only one person, later identified as Pineschi, was hospitalized with critical injuries. He died later that evening.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have not confirmed which vehicle Pineschi was in at the time of the collision. Sacramento Police closed the area through the early morning hours as they conducted their investigation. No other significant injuries were reported.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and physical evidence to determine fault. Running a red light may constitute negligence under California law and could result in criminal charges or civil liability depending on the outcome of the investigation.
