Pittsburg, CA (May 3, 2024) – A 65-year-old man, Rene Cisneros, is recovering after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Pittsburg.
Incident Overview: Cisneros recounted the moment when he was hit by a Mercedes as he was locking the gate outside his lawnmower repair shop on Buchanan Road. He described seeing the driver distracted, possibly using her phone, just before the collision. The driver hit him, driving over his feet and knocking him back into his car, then fled the scene without stopping. Cisneros was knocked unconscious due to the impact and was airlifted to a hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, but he reported pain in his feet, stomach, and shoulder. A few hours after the incident, police used automated license plate readers to locate the driver at her home in Walnut Creek. The 36-year-old woman was arrested and now faces felony hit-and-run charges. Her identity has not been released.
Legal Implications: Hit-and-run incidents involving injury can result in serious legal consequences, including felony charges which may carry substantial penalties if the driver is convicted. Additionally, based on the injuries to Mr. Cisneros, he may to consider pursuing a personal injury claim against the driver. This claim could help compensate for medical treatment costs, lost wages, and more.
I wish Mr. Cisneros a speedy recovery after this awful incident. I also hope that the driver responsible for the hit-and-run is held accountable for their actions.
