Rachel Calvillo identificada como la pasajera fallecida en el accidente de febrero en Pioneer Drive y Dennison Lane, Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (April 1, 2024) – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 29-year-old Rachel Breanne Calvillo of Bakersfield as the woman tragically killed in a collision that occurred at Pioneer Drive and Dennison Lane around 1:35 a.m. on February 17, 2024.

Incident Overview: Rachel Calvillo was the right front passenger in a 2015 Honda driven by Brayden Aragon that was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet. The Chevrolet was driven by 33-year-old Gabriel Coronel of Bakersfield, who veered into the opposite lane. Calvillo was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other occupants of the Honda were transported to Kern Medical with injuries of unknown severity. Following the crash, Coronel was arrested for felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury. Additionally, Brayden Aragon, the driver of the Honda, faced misdemeanor DUI charges.

Legal Implications and Analysis: This tragic event highlights the severe consequences of driving under the influence. With both drivers arrested for DUI-related charges, the family of Rachel Calvillo might consider pursuing wrongful death claims against both Coronel and Aragon.

In California, wrongful death claims can cover a variety of damages, including funeral and burial costs, lost future income, and loss of companionship. There’s also the potential for punitive damages aimed at punishing wrongful conduct and deterring similar behavior in the future. The fact that both drivers were under the influence at the time of the accident significantly complicates the legal landscape and will require a thorough investigation to determine the liability percentages of each driver.

Ongoing Investigation and Calls for Community Assistance: The investigation into the fatal collision that claimed the life of Rachel Breanne Calvillo remains active, as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the crash. With both drivers facing charges related to driving under the influence, the case underscores the critical importance of responsible driving and the severe consequences of impairment behind the wheel.

The community is urged to come forward with any information that might aid in the investigation, as even minor details can provide significant insights.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the memory of Rachel Breanne Calvillo and the tragic circumstances of her passing serve as a poignant reminder of the irreversible impact of driving under the influence.
