Whites Creek, TN (April 9, 2025) – A 42-year-old man identified as Pritam “Peter” Singh was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving a Nissan Altima and a Volvo tractor-trailer on Interstate 24 West near Old Hickory Boulevard, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Incident Details: The crash occurred during the morning commute on April 9. According to the preliminary investigation, the Volvo semi-truck was traveling in the right lane of I-24 when the driver moved into the left lane to avoid a disabled vehicle parked on the shoulder. As the truck attempted to merge back into the right lane, a Nissan Altima traveling at a high speed tried to pass on the right side.
The Altima struck the trailer’s tires, lost control, and veered off the highway, ultimately rolling into a tree line. Pritam Singh, a passenger in the Altima, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 30-year-old driver of the Altima and a 19-year-old rear-seat passenger were both transported to Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police reported no signs of impairment from either driver involved in the crash.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Metro Nashville Police continue investigating the incident to determine whether driver error, unsafe passing, or lane merging contributed to the fatal outcome. Authorities may also review vehicle speeds, traffic conditions, and whether proper caution was used during the lane change.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Singh’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party. Civil litigation could help the family recover damages for funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and loss of companionship.
