Muere atropellado el peatón Marquis Ray en el sur de Los Ángeles

South Los Angeles, CA (November 20, 2024) – On the evening of Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 30-year-old Marquis Ray tragically lost his life while attempting to cross the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway near Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in South Los Angeles.

Accident Details: California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to the incident at approximately 8:35 p.m., where they found Ray in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Factors such as lighting, freeway barriers, road conditions, and mechanical failure are often scrutinized. The driver may also face liability if excessive speed or distracted driving contributed to the crash.

Wrongful Death: If negligence is identified as the cause of the accident, Ray’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim. This claim will help them hold the negligent parties accountable for their actions and provide compensation for the emotional and financial aftermath of losing a loved one.

Comparative Negligence: Even if Ray is deemed negligent for walking on the freeway, his family may still be able to recover partial compensation based on California’s comparative negligence laws as long as a third party also shares responsibility.

I offer my sincerest thoughts and condolences to Marquis Ray’s family and friends during this difficult time.
