Accident Details: The crash occurred around 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Crailet Drive. Police say the driver of a white Toyota RAV4 was traveling north on Brookhurst when they struck a pedestrian south of the intersection.

Officers arrived to find the woman lying in the roadway. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released.

The driver, a 62-year-old man from Costa Mesa, remained at the scene after the crash. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of DUI, stating that impairment appears to have been a factor in the collision.

In California, fatal pedestrian accidents involving DUI drivers often lead to both criminal and civil consequences. DUI-related crashes frequently result in felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter, along with potential civil claims for wrongful death.
