Paso Robles Man Arrested for DUI After Crash with CHP Patrol Car

Paso Robles, CA (April 14, 2025) — A 36-year-old Paso Robles man was arrested on a felony DUI charge Sunday night after crashing into a California Highway Patrol (CHP) vehicle on Highway 101, authorities said.

Incident Details: According to CHP San Luis Obispo, the crash occurred around 10:49 p.m. when the driver of a 2008 Ford Focus entered the highway eastbound from Wellsona Road and collided with a southbound CHP patrol car. The impact struck the driver-side door of the Ford Focus. The two CHP officers, who were both wearing seatbelts, sustained minor injuries. The DUI suspect, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP reports the driver was later booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on a felony DUI charge. The incident remains under investigation to determine the full scope of contributing factors, including impairment and traffic violations. Legal consequences could include felony DUI prosecution, especially given the involvement of law enforcement personnel and the potential endangerment of multiple lives.
