San Diego, CA (May 3, 2025) – A chain-reaction crash on southbound Interstate 805 Saturday morning left one person dead and three others injured. A San Diego man is now under arrest for suspected DUI in connection with the deadly incident.
Accident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. near 43rd Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Markus Eugene Turner was driving a black Honda sedan when he collided with a silver Toyota that had been stopped on the shoulder of the freeway. The impact set off a pile-up. Turner’s car struck two more vehicles: a blue Honda sedan and a white Toyota sedan. The debris from the crash also damaged a nearby silver Nissan SUV.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the silver Toyota sedan died at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released. Turner, two passengers in his car, and the driver of the blue Honda were all transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to major.
Once released from medical care, Turner was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence. CHP investigators are continuing to look into the cause and sequence of the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP San Diego Area office.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: To understand how this crash unfolded, investigators will examine several key sources of evidence: roadway markings, the condition and positioning of the vehicles, physical debris, surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras, and witness statements. They’ll also review toxicology reports and attempt to determine whether impairment played a role.
Depending on the final findings, the family of the person who died may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. The injured passengers in Turner’s vehicle and the driver of the blue Honda may be able to file claims for their injuries.
I offer my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life in this devastating crash. I also hope for the recovery of those who were injured.
