Van Wyck, SC (March 20, 2025) – A person was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on collision between a minivan and a Freightliner tractor-trailer on Highway 5 near Old Hickory Road.
Incident Details: According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 9:30 a.m. The tractor-trailer was traveling west, while the Honda minivan was traveling east when they collided head-on. The minivan driver was killed at the scene, while the truck driver sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Head-on collisions often raise concerns about lane departures, driver error, and road safety conditions. Investigators will assess whether speeding, distraction, or improper passing contributed to the crash. If negligence is determined, the victim’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss.
