San Francisco, CA (May 2, 2025) – A high-speed collision involving four vehicles on the Bay Bridge late Friday night left one man dead and another person hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80, close to the incline portion of the Bay Bridge. CHP and San Francisco police responded to the scene and found four vehicles: a white Genesis sedan, a silver Toyota Corolla, another silver Toyota car, and a gray Toyota. They were blocking Lanes 1 through 4.
According to CHP’s preliminary findings, the driver of the Genesis sedan was allegedly speeding and did not notice slower traffic ahead. The Genesis rear-ended the silver Toyota Corolla, which then collided with the second silver Toyota, ultimately pushing that car into the gray Toyota.
The driver of the silver Toyota Corolla sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not yet been released. Another person was also hospitalized, but officials have not confirmed who the individual was.
The driver of the Genesis remained at the scene, and authorities reported they suspect drugs or alcohol may have been involved.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Driving under the influence is dangerous as it causes slow reaction times and impairs decision-making. Investigators will likely focus on toxicology reports, skid marks and vehicle positions, dashcam footage, eyewitness accounts, and speed data.
Depending on the facts, the family of the deceased Toyota Corolla driver may have grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit. A successful claim could help cover funeral and burial expenses, emotional trauma, and loss of financial support.
The injured victim may also have a personal injury claim, depending on the extent of their injuries and their role in the crash. Claims like these can help with medical bills, ongoing treatment, pain and suffering, and loss of income.
I extend my condolences to the family and friends of the man who died. I also wish the injured a fast recovery.
