Monterey County, CA (May 21, 2025) – One person has been identified after a fatal crash involving a semi-truck in Monterey County earlier this week.
Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened Monday morning, May 20, on southbound Highway 101 near Camphora Gloria Road in Soledad. A semi-truck reportedly struck a pedestrian walking in the area. The pedestrian, now identified as 43-year-old Olga Melnikova of Soledad, was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding why Melnikova was on the roadway remain under investigation. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP is continuing to investigate the crash. It is currently unknown whether impairment, speed, or visibility played a role. Officials have not announced whether any citations or charges will be filed. Investigators are working to determine how and why Melnikova came to be in the roadway.
