Otter Tail County, NY (June 6, 2025) — A New York State trooper sustained serious injuries during a traffic stop on the westbound lane of the New York State Thruway near Exit 26.
Incident Details:
At around 12:30 p.m., a semi-truck without a trailer struck the rear of the trooper’s patrol car and a Honda Odyssey that had been pulled over. The force of the impact sent the trooper over a guiderail and down an embankment. The trooper was rushed to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries and later released that night. The driver and passenger of the Honda were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Investigations and Legal Considerations:
Authorities are still investigating the crash. The westbound lanes at Exit 26 were temporarily closed. Officials reminded motorists to follow New York’s Move Over Law, emphasizing the importance of protecting emergency responders and others on the shoulder of the road.
