Newport News, VA (March 21, 2025) – A crash involving a jackknifed tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles caused major traffic delays early Monday morning on westbound Interstate 64 near mile marker 250 at the Fort Eustis Boulevard exit.
Incident Details: The collision occurred around 5:45 a.m. According to Virginia State Police, traffic had slowed significantly when a 2015 Dodge Ram and a 2008 Ford Escape reduced speed. The driver of a 2005 International tractor-trailer, identified as Brian Bootes of New York, failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the Dodge Ram before striking the Ford Escape. The Ford driver was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Bootes was cited for following too closely, a common cause of rear-end collisions. Investigators will continue to assess whether the driver’s inattention, speed, or other factors contributed to the crash. In such cases, injured parties may pursue personal injury claims to recover damages for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering. Commercial drivers and their employers can both be held liable in these situations.
Wishing the injured motorist a full and speedy recovery.
