Bicyclist Lori Ann Carreon Killed in Long Beach Hit-and-Run Crash

Long Beach, California  (February 7, 2026) — A beloved occupational therapist was killed Saturday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash while biking home from work in Long Beach. Loved ones identified the victim as Lori Ann Carreon, remembered by friends as “free spirited, full of life, and super friendly.”

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 4:48 p.m. at the intersection of Redondo Avenue and East 2nd Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Incident Details: Officers responded to reports of an injury hit-and-run involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. Upon arrival, they found Carreon on the ground with a bystander rendering aid. She was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate Carreon was traveling southbound on Redondo Avenue when she entered the intersection at East 2nd Street. At the same time, a 2025 gray Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on East 2nd Street. Investigators say the Hyundai entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at the stop sign, and collided with the bicyclist.

According to individuals who spoke with KTLA, the impact reportedly propelled Carreon approximately 60 feet, causing her to land on a parked vehicle. A nurse who witnessed the crash immediately began administering CPR before emergency responders arrived.

The driver of the Hyundai fled the scene without stopping to render aid or provide identification, as required by law. The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on East 2nd Street from Redondo Avenue. Authorities are investigating speed as a potential contributing factor.

Investigation: Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation detectives are leading the case. In hit-and-run cases involving serious injury or death, investigators typically analyze surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences, review traffic camera data, and examine physical evidence such as debris patterns and skid marks to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Because the crash occurred at a controlled intersection with posted stop signs, investigators will likely focus on right-of-way compliance, visibility conditions, and vehicle speed at the time of impact. The vehicle description, a 2025 gray Hyundai Sonata, may assist law enforcement in identifying recent repairs or damage consistent with the collision.

Detectives are also expected to evaluate whether traffic-calming measures, signal timing, or roadway design played any role in the crash dynamics. Establishing the precise speed of the vehicle and the driver’s actions immediately before impact will be critical in determining criminal liability.

Legal Considerations: California drivers involved in a collision resulting in injury or death are required to stop, render aid, and provide identifying information immediately. Fleeing the scene of a fatal crash may result in felony charges, with severe criminal penalties upon conviction.

From a civil standpoint, Carreon’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if the driver is identified. These claims can address funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the profound emotional loss suffered by surviving loved ones.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the Long Beach community who mourn the loss of Lori Ann Carreon.
