Dayton, TX (May 28, 2025) — A violent head-on crash between two commercial trucks Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one driver and sent two others to the hospital. The collision occurred at the intersection of FM 1960 and County Road 608, prompting a significant emergency response and road closure.
Incident Details: Authorities say the crash happened at approximately 10:58 a.m. when a roll-off truck traveling eastbound on FM 1960 lost control and veered into the westbound lane, directly into the path of an 18-wheeler with a cargo trailer. The two trucks collided head-on, leaving both vehicles severely damaged.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 63-year-old Lawrence Al James of Houston, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The roll-off truck’s occupants, 53-year-old Gloria Braxton and 53-year-old Oscar Gonzalez-Enrique, also from Houston, were transported to Kingwood Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The crash is under investigation, and authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the roll-off truck to lose control. Investigators will likely examine driver fatigue, maintenance records, and load conditions. However, initial reports suggest the eastbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, raising serious concerns about operator error or potential mechanical failure.
