Long Beach, CA (March 8, 2025) – A woman who suffered critical injuries in a traffic collision last month has died, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The crash, which took place in North Long Beach, involved a speeding driver and left 58-year-old Kay Lynn Dehorney hospitalized for nearly a month before she succumbed to her injuries on April 6.
Incident Details: The collision occurred on the morning of March 8, 2025, around 8:30 a.m., at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Harding Street. Police say Dehorney was turning westbound onto Harding Street from northbound Atlantic Avenue in a 2010 Pontiac G6 when her vehicle was struck by a 2022 Chrysler 300.
According to investigators, the Chrysler was being driven southbound on Atlantic Avenue at a high rate of speed when it collided with Dehorney’s vehicle. The force of the crash pushed both vehicles into the southwest corner of the intersection, where the Chrysler continued on to strike a private sign and a cinder block wall.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital. Dehorney remained under medical care until she died nearly a month later.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Long Beach Police Department has identified speed as a contributing factor in the collision. Although no criminal charges have been filed, the investigation continues, and additional factors will be evaluated, such as distracted driving or vehicle malfunctions.
If it is determined that the other driver’s excessive speed directly caused or contributed to the fatal outcome, Dehorney’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. The family may be able to recover damages for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and emotional suffering.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Dehorney family and loved ones.
