Jose Reyes, 23, Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California (November 2, 2025) — Authorities have identified the man killed in a multi-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles as 23-year-old Jose Reyes. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3 a.m. near Exposition Boulevard and involved at least three vehicles.

Incident Details: CHP officials reported that the collision took place in the southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway. Details regarding the sequence of events and the other vehicles involved have not yet been released. Paramedics responded quickly, but despite emergency efforts, Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has not disclosed his city of residence.

A SigAlert was issued at 3:22 a.m., closing lanes 3 through 5 of the southbound freeway to allow investigators to document the scene and clear the wreckage. All lanes reopened around 7:58 a.m.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol’s South Los Angeles office is leading the investigation to determine the factors that led to the deadly crash. Investigators are examining all potential contributing elements, including, but not limited to, whether excessive speed played a role, whether impairment from alcohol or drugs was a factor for any of the drivers involved, or whether unsafe lane changes contributed to the sequence of events. To thoroughly reconstruct the incident, authorities will also be reviewing comprehensive witness statements gathered from individuals who observed the crash.

In multi-vehicle freeway collisions, determining liability often depends on which driver initiated the chain reaction and whether proper following distances were maintained. Authorities have not yet announced whether citations or criminal charges will be filed.

Legal Considerations: High-speed collisions on major freeways like the 110 often raise complex questions of fault and responsibility. Under California law, all drivers are required to maintain control of their vehicles and operate at speeds that are safe for traffic conditions. When multiple drivers are involved, even one moment of distraction or reckless driving can trigger a catastrophic chain of events.

If investigators determine that negligence contributed to the crash, the family of Jose Reyes may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim for funeral costs, emotional loss, and other damages. A wrongful death claim aims to provide some measure of justice and financial relief to families who have lost a loved one due to another party’s negligent actions.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jose Reyes as they mourn this sudden and heartbreaking loss.
