Detenido un conductor tras el atropello mortal que se cobró la vida de Jazmín Castillo en Los Ángeles

Los Angeles, CA (May 7, 2024) — Authorities have identified a woman who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in East L.A. as Jazmin Castillo, 42, of Snowmass Village, Colorado. The tragic collision occurred just before 11 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Atlantic and Olympic boulevards.

Incident Overview: The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Castillo was struck and killed near the collision site and pronounced dead shortly after the accident. Following the crash, authorities tracked a mangled red Toyota Celica to the Commerce Casino and Hotel, located about a mile-and-a-half from the collision site. However, the driver had fled. Further investigation led authorities to a residence on North Manhattan Place in Larchmont, approximately 14 miles from the crash scene. The suspected driver was taken into custody around 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including whether the driver was impaired or distracted at the time of the accident. Based on the information available, Castillo’s family could consider a wrongful death claim to cover funeral expenses, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from the driver’s actions.

I offer my sincerest condolences to Jazmin Castillo’s friends and family after this awful incident. I hope that the driver is held accountable for their actions and that the family receives the support they need as they grieve.
