Pomona, CA (August 11, 2025) – A Pomona family is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of their mother, Ingrid Zapata, who was killed when a tire flew off a pickup truck and struck her vehicle on the 60 Freeway early Monday morning.
Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. when Steven Hernandez was driving his pickup truck. One of its tires came loose, traveled across the center divider, and smashed into Zapata’s Lexus, crushing the windshield. Zapata was going to work after dropping friends off at LAX when the accident happened.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The crash remains under investigation as investigators work to determine why the tire detached from Hernandez’s truck. Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP’s Baldwin Park office.
Accident reconstruction, expert analysis, inspection of the truck, and analysis of vehicle maintenance records will be critical in determining what happened.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ingrid Zapata. The family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
