Houston, TX (May 27, 2025) – A deadly chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles and an 18-wheeler shut down I-10 near downtown Houston Monday night. According to the Houston Police Department, the collision claimed the life of one woman and sent several others to area hospitals.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. near the Waco Street exit on the East Freeway. Authorities say the victim’s car had broken down and was attempting to reach the shoulder when an SUV stopped behind it. Moments later, an 18-wheeler struck the SUV from behind, pushing both vehicles forward into a third vehicle.
The SUV caught fire following the impact, trapping the female driver inside. Emergency personnel later confirmed she died at the scene. All other individuals involved were hospitalized with injuries that are expected to be non-life-threatening.
Traffic cameras recorded smoke rising from the scene as fire crews worked to contain the blaze. The freeway was shut down for several hours and fully reopened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Legal Considerations: Rear-end collisions involving a disabled vehicle can present complicated legal issues, especially when commercial trucks are involved.
