Una colisión con fuga se cobra la vida de Gregory Vaughn Simpson en el sur de Los Ángeles

South Los Angeles, CA (January 5, 2025) – In the early hours of Sunday, January 5, 2025, a tragic hit-and-run collision occurred on Manchester Avenue in South Los Angeles, resulting in the death of 61-year-old Gregory Vaughn Simpson.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 1 a.m. in the 100 block of East Manchester Avenue, east of Main Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Simpson was riding a scooter westbound on Manchester Avenue when a westbound vehicle struck him. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid. Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. In cases of fatal hit-and-run collisions, California law requires drivers involved in accidents to remain at the scene and provide assistance. Fleeing the scene not only constitutes a criminal act but also denies victims and their families critical information needed for accountability and closure.

Simpson’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party if they are identified. Such a claim could seek compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Gregory Vaughn Simpson’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
