Grace Edwards Struck and Killed in Long Beach Parking Lot Crash

LONG BEACH, CA (November 11, 2025) — A 19-year-old woman walking through a parking lot succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a vehicle earlier this month. The Long Beach Police Department identified the victim as Grace Edwards of Long Beach.

Accident Details: The Long Beach Police Department reported that the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. on November 2 on the 2200 block of Bellflower Boulevard, near Stearns Street. Edwards was struck by a 2015 Lexus IS250 as its 39-year-old driver attempted to exit a parking stall.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendered medical aid to Edwards at the scene and transported her to a hospital in critical condition. Detectives were notified on Thursday that Edwards had died from her injuries the day before. The driver, also a Long Beach resident, remained at the scene.

Police said distracted driving was believed to be a factor in the crash.

Investigation: The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the parking lot crash that claimed Edwards’ life. Authorities determined that distracted driving likely contributed to the collision.

The driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. Police have not announced whether any citations or charges have been filed in connection with the crash.

Legal Considerations: Parking lot crashes that result in pedestrian fatalities often involve driver inattention or failure to check surroundings before backing out or exiting a parking space. Drivers have a duty to ensure their path is clear before moving their vehicles, especially in areas where pedestrians are present.

California law treats distracted driving as negligence that can support both criminal and civil liability. When distraction causes a driver to strike and kill a pedestrian, the driver may face vehicular manslaughter charges depending on the degree of negligence involved.

Families who lose young loved ones to distracted driving crashes can file wrongful death claims seeking compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses before death, and the loss of the victim’s future contributions and companionship. These cases serve as reminders of the devastating consequences that can result from momentary lapses in attention behind the wheel.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Grace Edwards as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
