En un accidente en el condado de Fresno mueren Lizbeth Sánchez y Santiago Martínez Ceja

Sanger, CA (May 16, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of Lizbeth Sanchez, 30, and Santiago Martinez Ceja, 38, on Thursday, May 16. The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of De Wolf and North Avenues near Sanger.

Accident Details: Sanchez and Ceja drove north on De Wolf Avenue in a Chrysler sedan. They approached the intersection with North Avenue, where a stop sign was posted. As they proceeded to cross the intersection, their car was struck on the driver’s side by a Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on North Avenue, which had the right of way and no stop sign.

Consequences: The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles. Tragically, Sanchez and Ceja were pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers in the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries and were transported to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has stated that DUI is not suspected to be a factor in this accident.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find a thorough investigation must be conducted to determine the cause of the accident. If negligence exists, the families of Sanchez and Ceja may be able to file a wrongful death claim.

Visibility and Signage: One critical factor to investigate is whether the stop sign on De Wolf Avenue was clearly visible to Sanchez and Ceja as they approached the intersection. Overgrown vegetation from poor maintenance or improper signage placement can sometimes obscure traffic signs, leading to accidents like this one.

Speed of the Vehicles: Another crucial aspect is assessing the speed at which both vehicles traveled during the collision. The severity of the impact can provide insights into whether the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling at an appropriate speed for the intersection despite having the right of way.

Road Conditions and Maintenance: Lastly, it is vital to examine the road conditions at the time of the accident. Poorly maintained roads can contribute to accidents by making it difficult for drivers to control their vehicles or see necessary traffic signs.

My deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of Lizbeth Sanchez and Santiago Martinez Ceja during this challenging time.
