Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco Killed in Fiery Head-On Collision in Burnet County

Burnet County, TX (July 25, 2025) — A weekend trip to celebrate a birthday turned tragic when five lifelong friends from the Dallas area were killed in a head-on collision north of Austin. The crash occurred on U.S. 281 near Park Road in Burnet County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Incident Details: Investigators say a truck pulling a livestock trailer veered into oncoming traffic, striking several vehicles. The car carrying the women overturned and caught fire. The victims were identified as 23-year-old Thalia Salinas, along with Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco — all in their early 20s. The group had been friends since middle school and were traveling to Kingsland to celebrate Salinas’ birthday at the lake, a place her family said was her favorite. All five died at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Texas Department of Public Safety continues investigating the crash. Key questions will include why the truck crossed into the oncoming lane, whether due to driver fatigue, distraction, mechanical failure, or another cause. Physical evidence from the crash scene, witness accounts, and vehicle inspections will be critical in determining fault.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the families of the victims may have grounds to pursue wrongful death claims. These claims could compensate for funeral costs, loss of companionship, and other profound losses.

My deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of Thalia, Ruby, Brianna, Desiree, and Jacqueline as they face this unimaginable loss.
