Muere una motorista en una colisión con un semirremolque en la carretera 15 en el condado de Marlboro

McColl, SC (May 12, 2025) — A female motorcyclist was killed Monday morning in a collision with a semi-truck on Highway 15 near McColl, according to Marlboro County Coroner De’Aron Smith.

Incident Details: The crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on May 12, prompting a significant emergency response. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Coroner Smith confirmed that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other injuries were reported. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity, as her family is still being notified.

The crash forced a full closure of Highway 15 between High Street and Briar Patch Road, and deputies urged drivers to use alternate routes due to the extended investigation and cleanup period.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to determine what caused the fatal collision. Key factors under review will include whether the semi-truck driver failed to yield, made an unsafe turn, or was otherwise negligent. Investigators will also assess road conditions, vehicle speeds, and visibility at the time of the crash.

Pending the investigation’s findings, the victim’s family may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. Such a claim could seek compensation for funeral expenses, emotional trauma, and the loss of the rider’s companionship and support.

I extend my condolences to the loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this accident.
